The Awakening

Years ago, Lorraine found herself immersed in a rigorous, traditional yoga practice. Day after day, she dedicated hours to perfecting her asana, pranayama and meditation, adhering strictly to the methods she had been taught. Despite her dedication, Lorraine began to notice alarming signs: her body became thin and dry, her energy depleted, and she felt an overwhelming sense of disconnection.

During a moment of realization. Lorraine saw that she had been subjected to a very masculine approach to yoga — one that emphasized discipline and achievement over intuition and self-care. She recognized that this method, while beneficial in some respects, was leading her away from the deep nourishing experience that yoga had the potential to offer.

The Transformation

Determined to find a more fulfilling path, Lorraine began to listen to her body and soul. She nourished herself with food by listening to her body’s intelligence, not just those deemed "healthy" by conventional yoga standards. She reintroduced more joy into her life through dance, music, poetry, laughter, and started to connect to her heart. She discovered that there was a lot of suppressed emotion and found ways in which to release and understand it more. 

Lorraine’s journey led her to study the Mahavidyas, the Tantric Wisdom Goddesses, and to immerse herself in the heart-opening practices of Sufi meditation, bhakti yoga and Kashmir Shaivism. These experiences transformed her approach to yoga. She became more grounded and rooted in her body. Her health improved, and she discovered a deeper sense of peace.
