This 8-weeks specialised online 50 Hr Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training registered with Yoga Alliance led by Lorraine (500 E-RYT) and Atira Tan (SEP, MA, 500 E-RYT) who have a combined 50 years in the feminine yogic and therapeutic arts field.
This is a training for women only that will inspire and empower you to take yoga out from the “asana” into a deeper dimension of healing and transformation for yourself, your students, and ultimately, the world.
Lorraine and Atira are passionate in their approach of returning to the roots of yoga from a feminine perspective, the decolonization of yoga, and empowering female practitioners to reclaim their sovereignty through trauma resolution and embodied wisdom.
The training is self-paced and virtual with video lectures, yoga classes, experiential somatic practices, and practice assignments. You will gain a strong foundation on supporting female yoga students or those in feminine wisdom work to heal from traumatic imprints which may arise in class, including sexual abuse, as well as deepening your own self-practice in feminine yoga and spirituality.

Our Curriculum
Program Description:
This 8-weeks self-paced course is a deep dive into the world of somatic psychology, embodiment, trauma-informed foundations, embodied social change and feminine yoga and spirituality.
The program will consist of a combination of video lectures, yoga classes, Live Zoom Workshops across 8 weeks, homework assignments, and theory. Our Live Zoom Workshops will provide experiential explorations and learnings, and the homework and practice sessions will deepen and anchor the education in a practical way, off the mat. This 50 Hr online training is a self-paced educational program and can be done at your own time and schedule. Completion in this program adds 50hrs YACEP or 50hrs towards a 300hr program and it can also add 20 hours credit towards Atira Tan’s annual 100 Hr Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training.

Exploring the fundamental principles of Trauma-Informed Yoga and its importance in creating safer spaces for your students.
Understanding why and how your students may have unresolved trauma and the art of attunement and trauma-informed responses to their needs and emotions.
Learning the difference of the diverse styles of yoga in the context of the nervous system, and turning the focus from the physicality of the asana, to interception, felt sense and safety in a pose.
Understanding the importance of choice and agency for your students.
Knowing how rigid and authoritative cueing, adjustments and non-consensual touch can trigger and potentially harm your students.
Exploring the elements of a yoga class such as pace, tone of voice and language, and the essentials of trauma sensitivity.
Learning the difference between a regular yoga class and a trauma-informed yoga class, and the fundamental differences of both.
Overview of Trauma & the Nervous System: The Psychophysiology of Yoga & Trauma.
Understanding why and how trauma affects the nervous system, and how this may create a loss of connection to ourselves and others in the context of a yoga class.
Learning about the fight/ flight/ freeze/ fawn and social engagement response, and how to identify these responses in the classroom.
Knowing how trauma impacts our bodies, minds, and spirits, and the essential elements and steps of somatic trauma resolution.
Understanding how the symptoms of unresolved trauma can wreak havoc on our bodies, minds, and spirits, and how to respond effectively as a yoga teacher to our students in fight/ flight/freeze and fawn.
The Art of Therapeutic Presence: Self-Regulation & Co-Regulation
Developing your therapeutic presence, trauma-informed language and cues, and tools for deep listening and attunement so that we can provide regulation, resourcing, and safety for our students.
Understanding the art of holding space in a safe and gentle way where we are present, empathetic, and compassionate instead of “giving advice” or rescuing.
Learning how our experiences of unresolved trauma and lack of resources and regulation as teachers can impact our students.
Creating a safer space for others whilst tending to our own self-care through yogic and embodiment tools to help us regulate as teachers in stressful situations and classes.
Cultivating somatic tools of self-regulation, co-regulation, and exploring our own inner and outer resources in order to further assist our students in promoting a sense of peace, calm, and tranquility in their bodies and lives.
Essential elements of Trauma-Informed Yoga Part 1: Asana, Meditation, Philosophy & Pranayama
Learning about yoga asanas, pranayamas, and meditation techniques that can heal or harm students who have unresolved trauma.
Applying yoga asanas for the different categories of trauma, and how we can safely guide students into supporting trauma in certain areas of the body.
Preparing and teaching yoga sequences that can help to support specific physical areas of unresolved trauma and how to respond in your sequencing.
Applying somatic and embodied skills into your yoga classes so that you can support your students into a space of self-attunement, instead of over-riding their sensations to achieve the perfect pose.
Essential elements of Trauma-Informed Yoga Part 2: Trauma-Informed Cueing, Adjustments, Consent, Boundaries, and Language
Learning about the skills of trauma-informed and invitational language and cues to create a space of safety, trust, and relaxation instead of re-triggering your students, creating fear and anxiety in your classes.
Gaining awareness of how the music in the class, tone of voice, adjustments, sequencing, transitions, presence, and eye contact can create greater regulation and agency, instead of constriction and anxiety.
Improving your skills on gaining non-verbal and verbal consent in class for touch, and learning how touch and adjustments can be potentially triggering for your students, and how supportive touch can help to regulate your students who may be experiencing fight, flight, or freeze,
Developing your ability to provide choice and agency in your classes is an important element of trauma-informed yoga through your cues, attunement, and presence as an antidote to traumatic experiences.
Feminine Approaches to Yoga: Cultivating self-love, and appreciation
Learning how to honour the feminine shape and form in our yoga practice.
Understanding how to journey inwards using the five bodies as a map.
Discovering specific practices dedicated to self-love and reducing anxiety, stress, insomnia.
Utilizing the feminine breath ~ embracing the practice of pranayama in a more feminine way.
Developing the connection with Eco-Therapy ~ understanding the ability of nature to heal, calm and soothe.
Gaining awareness of Ayurvedic tips and remedies for restoring balance in the nervous system.
Program Structure:
This is a self-paced study 50hr online teaching training. In addition to the video content, there will be homework assignments to anchor your learning experience.
All students will receive a YA 50 hour certificate of completion.
In addition, this training will provide 50 hours of credit towards Lorraine Taylor’s 300 Hr Advanced Teacher Training with Yoga Alliance or YACEP and 20 hours of credit towards Atira Tan’s 100 Hr Trauma-Informed Yoga Alliance Teacher Training.

Atira Tan
Somatic Trauma Specialist & Educator, M.A., SEP, 500 E-RYT
A TED speaker, activist, somatic trauma specialist, #1 Best Selling Author, and yoga teacher & group facilitator, Atira Tan, is a powerful agent of transformation and change. She has touched the lives of thousands of women, men, and children around the world, supporting them through her 17 years of experience in various somatic and creative trauma recovery approaches.
Passionate about creating safer spaces for everybody, and bringing healing and awareness in the “shadowy” areas of life, Atira has worked as a trauma-informed specialist, educator, and yoga teacher in multiple settings, international development, and private groups.
Atira has mapped the trauma recovery of thousands of women and girls who have experienced child sex slavery, trafficking, and abuse, including setting up trauma-informed yoga programs in shelters and hospitals since 2008. She is also the co-founder of a 100 hr Trauma-Informed Yoga Alliance Teaching Program, which has over 100 graduates in 3 years, many of whom are actively teaching trauma-informed yoga to marginalized communities.
She possesses an MA in Art Therapy, has a background in Transpersonal Art Therapy and Holistic Counselling, and is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, amongst decades of training in various other trauma-informed approaches.
Atira has also worked for over a decade internationally in community organizations and international development as a consultant, clinician, and supervisor, as well as an educator in non-for-profit settings. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the European Graduate School in Switzerland, researching the effectiveness of somatic and creative trauma recovery interventions for sex-trafficked survivors in Asia. Atira also has presented at numerous conferences alongside Dr. Peter Levine, Dr. Stephen Porges, Dr. Pat Ogden, and Dr. Gabor Mate, just to name a few.
The CEO and Founder of Art to Healing, an Australian charity which supports the recovery of child sex slaves, Atira has also initiated international women’s health, art therapy, and trauma-informed programs for women and girls who have experienced sex slavery and exploitation internationally for the past 15 years.
Pre-COVID, Atira taught workshops, retreats & teacher trainings in 4 continents around the globe including Australia, Europe, Asia, and South America. She specializes in supporting women, men, and children, particularly those who have experienced sexual abuse to recover from trauma, in groups & individually in her private practice and international development settings as a trauma specialist through the embodied somatic psychologies and other holistic approaches.
Lorraine Taylor
Senior Yoga Teacher, 500 E-RYT
Lorraine has been immersed in yoga for approximately 30 years. Her studies have taken her to both traditional Indian ashrams and modern-day yoga gurus. She has explored the different yogic paths of Hatha, Tantra, Bhakti, and Jnana and is currently very inspired by nature-based and trauma-informed practices, recognising how important this work is right now.
She loves the work of Gabor Mate and has delved into his Compassionate Enquiry approach. Her appreciation of the healing power of nature has also brought her to study Eco-Therapy and Forest Bathing more recently.
Lorraine offers a nurturing feminine approach to the lineage of classical yoga which honours the different levels of our Being with clear insight, compassion, and kindness.
She has been an international teacher for the last 20 years offering programs in Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. During the last few years, her work has extended to presenting at international conferences such as Science And Non-Duality, Yoga Journal, Embodiment Conference, and the Shadow Side Of The Feminine summit.
She is currently offering Advanced Yoga Teacher Trainings to women both online and in-person at her home in Thailand.
